Does Amazon Accept Venmo Payments?

No, Amazon no longer accepts Venmo as a payment option for purchases. Alternatively, Amazon accepts Venmo debit cards as a payment method for purchases. You can link your Venmo card to your Amazon account and use it for transactions.

Amazon No Longer Accepting Venmo

Amazon no longer accepts Venmo as a payment method.

Amazon currently does not accept Venmo as a payment method for several reasons:

  1. Compatibility and Integration: Amazon’s payment system is designed to work seamlessly with credit/debit cards, Amazon gift cards, and other established payment methods. Integrating Venmo would require additional technical adjustments and compatibility checks.
  2. Security and Fraud Prevention: Venmo primarily operates within the United States and is not as widely accepted globally. Amazon may be cautious about integrating a payment method that is not universally recognized. Venmo transactions are often peer-to-peer, which can pose challenges in terms of security and fraud prevention when used for large-scale e-commerce transactions.
  3. Ownership and Competition: Venmo is owned by PayPal, which is a competitor to Amazon in the online payment space. Amazon may prefer to promote its own payment services (such as Amazon Pay) rather than supporting a rival platform.
  4. User Behavior and Preferences: Amazon likely analyzes user behavior and preferences. If a significant portion of its customer base does not use Venmo or prefers other payment methods, there may be less incentive for Amazon to integrate it.
  5. Business Agreements and Negotiations: The decision to accept or reject a payment method involves negotiations, agreements, and business considerations. Amazon and Venmo may not have reached mutually beneficial terms for integration.

Does Amazon Accept Venmo as a Payment Option?

No, You can’t use Venmo to pay on Amazon. However, Amazon just announced that Venmo will be available as a payment option at checkout in 2024 making Venmo the first third-party payment platform that the e-commerce giant has partnered with.

The two platforms will be compatible and come in effect from 2022, although an exact date has not yet been revealed from any side.

In the meantime, you can use your Venmo card to make a purchase on Amazon, all you have to do is link your bank, debit, or credit card account to your Venmo.

Do note that there is a however a 3% fee for sending money using a linked credit card.

How Will Venmo on Amazon Work?

There aren’t many details yet about how users will use Venmo and the exact date this option will be available.

All we know so far is that Venmo will be added as a payment option at checkout sometime in 2022, which actually came as a surprise since you can’t even use Paypal, Venmo’s parent company, to pay for Amazon orders.

Users will have the option to use Venmo on both Amazon’s desktop platform and mobile app. Additionally, they can pay using their existing Venmo balance or the linked bank account.

However, it’s not yet known whether users will be able to use Venmo’s wallet as a standalone payment method or by integrating it with Amazon’s wallet service.

There’s a possibility that Amazon might require users to link their Venmo account to their Amazon wallet. In other words, you might only have the option of using your Venmo wallet to load up your Amazon wallet with cash and nothing else.

Are There Fees for Using Venmo on Amazon?

There’s no official statement on whether using Venmo on Amazon will be associated with additional fees. However, it’s quite unlikely that either Amazon or Venmo will charge you extra fees. According to Amazon, it’s important that the user has as much flexibility as possible when paying at checkout.

As of now, Amazon only accepts credit/debit cards and gift cards as payment options, so they want to expand on them and make it easier for their customers to make purchases. And adding charges to the service will likely discourage users from using it, which defeats the whole purpose.

Will Venmo Be Supported on Amazon Worldwide?

According to Amazon and Venmo, the Venmo payment option will be exclusive to United States users, at least when first launched. So, it’s not yet known if/when they’ll add Venmo support for more countries, but it’ll probably happen sooner or later.

Alternative

Suppose you prefer credit cards over digital wallets, or you don’t want to wait until the Venmo payment option becomes available on Amazon. In that case, we highly recommend that you apply for Venmo’s credit card and start using it for Amazon purchases right now.

The Venmo credit card will be treated just like any other bank-issued card on Amazon. So, if you want to use it, just choose the “credit/debit card” option when checking out on Amazon.

However, since there are certain requirements to apply and get accepted for the Venmo credit card, it’s good news that Amazon will start officially supporting Venmo in 2022.

How Will the Amazon-Venmo Partnership Affect the Ecosystem?

Because of the pandemic, more and more users are relying on e-commerce platforms like Amazon for shopping. And with the addition of Venmo as a payment option, more users will be encouraged to buy things online. The move also paves the way for more people signing up for Venmo and going cashless.

Will Amazon Accept Crypto Venmo Payments?

While Venmo supports cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, you won’t be able to use your crypto money to buy things on Amazon via Venmo. Your wallet or linked bank account must be charged with U.S dollars for your transactions to go through.

Are There Any Advantages to Using Venmo for Amazon Purchases?

Technically, no; there aren’t any extra advantages for users when paying with Venmo instead of a credit card. However, it’ll be useful for those who heavily rely on Venmo for their financial transactions.

And there are other scenarios where this option would be handy. For example, you can ask friends or family members to lend you money over Venmo to buy things on Amazon. The transaction will go through much faster than a bank transfer, for sure.

Bottom Line

That was a brief overview of whether Amazon takes Venmo as a payment option. The service isn’t available right now, but it’s scheduled to be launched soon. So sometime in 2022, you’ll be able to use Venmo to buy things on Amazon.

Hopefully, the exact launch date will be announced soon because we’re pretty sure you’re just as excited as we are!

And if you’re a loyal Venmo user who can’t wait for the launch, we highly recommend getting a Venmo credit card and using it to pay for your Amazon purchases.
